Wayland The Smith
There's a new episode live. I want to tell you about it.
I released the new episode of Old Bones today. If you don’t know the schtick of the show, in each episode I take a burial and use that to explore the culture in which those people were buried.
This episode is an odd one. Series two focuses on Anglo-Saxon England, but this episode looks at Wayland’s Smithy, a Neolithic tomb. For context, the Anglo-Saxons arrived 1600 years ago. Wayland’s Smithy was built over 5000 years ago.
But what I’m interested in this episode is not the burial itself, but its reimagiing by the Anglo-Saxons. I’m interested in the name. Wayland’s Smithy.
